The ad for a flatmate for the one bedroom flat in Newmarket reads: "Only Indian female who is a good cook is preferred. Students or working professional all fine. I am a student and working. The rent includes internet, water and phone. Electricity and grocery to be shared equally. The female will have a separate room as I will be sleeping out in the lounge, and you don't have to worry about the utensils. I will be washing them."
Watch those Zs
Stewart Germann reckons it pays to keep your wits about you when filling up. "I went to fill up at a Z station. The pump attendant said he would do it and just say to the cashier pump 6. I did that and the cashier said $72. I said no way as my tank was half full so I looked through the window and saw $46 on pump 6. The cashier then said that he always says the higher amount as there were two amounts waiting in the queue for pump 6, otherwise he would have to pay the difference himself. I was horrified and annoyed as it would be very easy to rip off unsuspecting customers."
Temptation cuts deep
Scar story No 1: Julie Pearce of Matamata writes: "My husband Ted tells this story of his scar. We are going back at least 68 years when rubbish was buried in the backyard. His mother sent him to the rubbish hole with a sardine tin and a broken glass. Noticing that there was still a piece of sardine left in the tin he put the glass down and sat down to pick the tasty morsel out of the tin and inadvertently sat on the broken glass. He didn't notice until he went inside and his mother saw the blood pouring down his leg. He still bears the scar of 14 stitches needed on his backside to repair the damage."

A reader who installs self-checkouts at supermarkets writes: "One of the reasons for the voice messages is that people tend to forget to take their groceries - same story with ATMs, where people forget to take their cash or their cards. If you forgot to take your items one day, you'd probably be complaining that she didn't remind you to 'please take your items'."
