SH1 north of Orewa blocked after fatal crash

A crash in the small north Auckland township of Orewa has blocked State Highway 1.

Due to the locality of the scene both vehicle lanes are currently blocked.

There is no alternate route north in the immediate vicinity and motorists intending to travel further North than Orewa are directed by police to exit left at the Silverdale interchange and travel West through Waitoki to join SH16 through to Wellford.

Southbound traffic is advised to leave SH1 at Wellsford and travel on SH16.

The details of the crash, including the deceased details will be released when known.

Sergeant Stu Kearns estimates police will be at the scene until approximately 5pm.
