Serious two-vehicle crash shuts State Highway 7 in North Canterbury

Serious injuries have been reported following an accident in North Canterbury.

State Highway 7/Mouse Point Rd in the Tekoa Range, Hurunui, is closed after the serious crash this afternoon.

Police were notified about 12pm of a two-vehicle crash between Hammer Springs Rd and Leslie Hills Rd involving a motorcycle and a car.

Initial indications are that there are serious injuries.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said two appliances from Hanmer Springs responded to the crash and assisted with scene protection before being stood down, leaving police and ambulance in attendance.

Hato Hone St John said two ambulances were at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said the crash was blocking SH7 in North Canterbury, just south of the turnoff to Hanmer Springs.

Emergency services are responding and road users are advised to delay travel in the area or use an alternative route.

People are asked to follow the directions of emergency services at the crash site.

State Highway 7/Mouse Point Rd is closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

NZTA contractors are travelling to assist.
