1 person seriously injured in Christchurch Akaroa Rd crash involving car and cyclist

One person with serious injuries has been airlifted to hospital after a crash between a car and a cyclist on a Canterbury road.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said State Highway 75 Christchurch Akaroa Rd on Canterbury’s Banks Peninsula was closed but has since reopened.

Police said they responded to the crash at French Farm, near the intersection of Summit Rd.

Hato Hone St John said it responded to the crash, which involved a cyclist and a car, at 2.27pm.

One person in a serious condition was transported to hospital by helicopter.

The St John spokesperson said one ambulance, one rapid response unit and a helicopter attended.

The highway was closed between Summit Rd and Long Bay Rd.

Police have been approached for comment.
