The country's roads have been a dangerous place to be today with the deaths of two people and many others injured.
A cyclist was killed after a collision with a truck in central Auckland about 2.15pm.
Shortly afterwards an elderly woman died in a car crash in Havelock North.
Two vehicles collided about 3.20pm on Napier Rd, killing the woman and injuring the other driver, police said.
Three people are fighting for their lives after a collision on the Coromandel Peninsula just after midday.
Another passenger suffered serious injuries and the drivers of both vehicles sustained minor injuries, Waikato police prevention manager Inspector Rob Lindsay said.
Earlier today in Waikato, two truck drivers were hospitalised when their vehicles collided near the Mangawhero bridge near Matamata.
The two trucks had collided on a narrow stretch of road, said Sergeant Dean Kaio of the Morrinsville police traffic unit.
"I think at some stage one of the vehicles has gone onto the wrong side of the road."
Meanwhile, up to 3000 litres of diluted weed spray was spilled into a Waikato stream about 7.30am today.
The incident occurred when a small weed-spraying truck veered off Waihi's Waitawheta Rd after the driver was blinded by sunstrike, police said.
The driver suffered minor injuries, said Waihi police Acting Sergeant Wayne Harper.
