Section of State Highway 2 near Masterton closed as emergency services free a person seriously injured in a two-car crash this afternoon

A seriously injured person has been freed from a vehicle after a two-car crash which has closed part of State Highway 2, north of Masterton, this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said both lanes of SH2 were blocked at Opaki and motorists were being diverted at Opaki Bridge and Loop Line.

Emergency services were alerted at 3.20pm and worked to free the seriously injured person.

There is no information on whether others have also been injured.
