A number of flights into Auckland Airport tonight have been diverted after runway lights failed.
Aircraft were also sitting on the tarmac waiting to depart after the edge lights of the runway went out about 10.40pm, airport spokesman Richard Llewellyn said.
Seven incoming flights, including international carriers from Singapore, Sydney and Tonga, were diverted to either Wellington or Christchurch.
Airways Corporation were responsible for the lights and had not given an indication when they would be up again, he said.
Airways Corporation could not be contacted for comment.
