“Units are in the area and working on avoiding udder chaos, ensuring the cow can be secured away from the roadway,” police said.
Local woman Maree Grigg snapped a photo of the cow as it ran along Racecourse Rd about 2pm.

“Was going reasonably fast … couple of cars behind it … I only had a few seconds to think wtf, take a pic and ask on grapevine [Facebook] if anyone was missing a cow.
“My partner said to keep it away from the vege garden,” she said.
Emergency Medical Technician Richelle Davies told the Herald she and her boss later herded the cow into a property, and the owners of the cow arrived a few minutes later.
“We saw the cow running down Kitchener Rd, followed it through to Waiuku Road and used the car to herd it into a commercial property,” Davies said.
She said she was with her boss. Both were off-duty as private Emergency Medical Technicians. They used their ambulance car to help herd the cow.
The post by Grigg on Facebook was immediately met with an array of comedic comments.
“Town’s new Ubers finally arrived,” one said.
“Milk delivery, anyone?” another joked.
