Rolleston youth justice escape: Teen found after Eagle helicopter search

Police have located a teenager who absconded from a youth justice residence near Christchurch.

The boy fled from Te Puna Wai ō Tuhinapo in Rolleston on Saturday morning.

He was found at 4.15am today with the assistance of the Eagle helicopter.

Oranga Tamariki confirmed the boy was back in custody.

He will appear in Youth Court on Monday.

Te Puna Wai ō Tuhinapo houses people aged 14-17, who face serious charges or have been sentenced by the Youth Court.

Oranga Tamariki said it would conduct a review to find out how the boy escaped.
