Emergency services are responding to a brazen robbery attempt on Napier’s main shopping street on Tuesday.
Police were speaking to witnesses outside Michael Hill on the corner of Emerson and Market Sts about 3.20pm.
Onlookers told Hawke’s Bay Today they heard a crash and saw half a dozen people insidethe jewellery store, some on top of displays smashing them, before the group fled out the door to a getaway car near Tennyson St.
One appeared to have a “machete” with them, a witness said.
