Red Nose Day is a shiner for sick kids

More than $2000 was raised for Cure Kids last week by Wairarapa schools and volunteers - double last year's result.

Masterton South Rotary Club spent last Friday outside Paper Plus collecting donations for Red Nose Day.

The day is national fundraiser for Cure Kids, an organisation which researches diseases affecting children.

"It was a really good effort by the Rotary Club," store owner and club member Russell Carthew said.

He said the store had also been selling red noses for the past few weeks.

Carterton School, Solway Primary School, Wainuioru Primary School and the Wairarapa College Hostel also held their own Red Nose Day collections to contribute to the cause.

"It was a great effort and we're hoping to do even better next year," said Mr Carthew.
