Awe-inspiring athletes running ASB Auckland Marathon simply because they can and not letting their disability define them - huge respect to the blind female runner and teenage girl with prosthetic leg competing in 12km Transverse.

Like Louise and Benjimin's rant, we have experienced the same thing with our Kontiki [fishing torpedo]. I think businesses who sell these need a GPS tracking device attached or at least a permanent kill switch. What happens when people who steal these out in the water return to land and then re-sell them? Disgusting!

A big thank you to the amazing guys that helped push our vehicle into a better position so it could be jump-started after the battery went flat while we were entertaining our children at the airport lookout last weekend. My mother, sister and I appreciate your help.

Rant
A showing of the movie Macbeth at the Rialto Cinema in Newmarket was marred by an over-loud sound system. The battle scene and background music was, at times, ear-splitting. A request to turn the sound down was ignored, although someone did check the sound briefly during dialogue. I would advise anyone wanting to see this movie to take cotton wool for their ears.

I would like to thank the blonde teacher who patrols the crossing outside Murrays Bay Intermediate on Wednesday mornings. I walk my children to the nearby primary school and have watched her stand, in what often feels like sub-Antarctic conditions, and greet all students with the warmth of a summer's day. Thank you for keeping our children safe with a smile.
