I wonder if the mayor and councillors ever drive around Auckland streets. With spring growth, some unmown grass verges look very scruffy - the homeowners can't or won't mow them. Also trees have not been trimmed, so sight lines have been obscured. To signal an approaching bus we have to risk stepping out on to a busy road.

As the days get longer and warmer, I've been making the most of Auckland's beautiful public spaces. I'm lucky enough to live near Mt Eden, Cornwall Park and the Domain, and all are fantastic to romp around and enjoy before heading into the office.

Almost daily, when walking with my dog, we are blocked by cars parked on or over the footpath. This necessitates trying to squeeze past or walking on to the road. If my dog and I were smaller and fitter, I would love to do what a man in Australia did. He was so fed up he and his dog walked over the next car they encountered. When confronted by the angry owner, he said he had politely asked the car to move aside but got no response.

The new beautiful library/community centre in Te Atatu Peninsula. If that place doesn't get the young ones studying and happy about learning then I don't know what will.

We have wonderful calendars showing NZ at its beautiful best that we want to send overseas to friends and family. Why don't they include the envelope to send it in?

I recently had a young French couple staying who wanted to open a bank account in New Zealand. They are here for one year on work permits. I was astounded at several of the major banks' reactions. ANZ told them they couldn't get an appointment for 10 days, BNZ kept me on hold and blurted messages in my ear. Kiwibank in Birkenhead saw them that day and the man who served them was a credit to the bank. They opened two accounts and were done in 30 minutes. Well done Kiwibank. You made me proud to be a Kiwi.
