A big thumbs up for young Dan at Segedins Auto Spares in Dominion Rd. Needing new windscreen wiper blades, I parked in front of the shop and tried to remove them to take them to the counter. From inside, Dan spotted me not succeeding, and cheerily arrived to remove the wiper arms, fit new blades and reinstall the lot. It's a small thing, maybe, but in a world where front-line staff often don't have a clue about the items they're selling, that sort of service earns my loyalty.

To get to the thick and creamy contents of a cardboard container of vanilla custard is somewhat of a challenge in ingenuity and patience. The custard is so thick it is difficult to access it. In fact, to get your 1kg worth, you end up tearing the cardboard into bits to extract the dessert from its many folds. I am now voting with my mouth, by refusing to be tempted any longer.

Thank you to Air New Zealand for keeping us updated via text during last Tuesday's technical problems. Not sure how they did it but we were all in the "holding pen" when all our cell phones rang at once. Okay, so one message said our flight had been delayed by 8 days and 5 minutes but the last one was bang on with a 55-minute delay. Thanks also to the pilot of Flight NZ445 who sneaked us into the queue quickly.

Well done Auckland Transport. Now to get to the Silverdale Medical Centre, not only do I have to cross a slip road where traffic speeds over the designated 70km/h, but now with your new traffic arrangement, I have to cross seven lanes of traffic at the pedestrian lights. There is no thought for pedestrian safety in this area.

Come on Auckland drivers, check your lights every so often to see if any are faulty. Eg look for two headlights in the reflection in the car in front. Easy. You shouldn't be driving if any are out; it's dangerous to others. Come on police, instead of waiting to get the easy ones, eg failing to indicate at a backwater roundabout, try to get cars with faulty head, rear or brake lights off the roads. Come on LTSA, let's have a campaign to highlight this problem of irresponsible drivers.
