Abandoned shopping trolleys and rubbish left on kerbs for "someone" to collect outside inorganic collection times, driving through red lights and countless other driving offences. When did we become so self-righteous and ignorant of others?

A note to the gentleman who stopped at 7am yesterday to help me on the hard shoulder of the Northwestern Motorway, heading towards St Lukes: thank you for your random act of kindness. I'm sorry that you had to reverse over a discarded deckchair to come to my aid. However, you restored my faith in Auckland drivers amid a sea of anti-social behaviour on our roads.

Shopping at my local supermarket with my young grandson, he drew my attention to a display of sweets and chocolate at his eye-level which I hadn't noticed before. How cynical of the store to place these just where shoppers queue at the checkout and children must pause right beside them. When I phoned the manager to complain I was told that there is a "sugar-free" aisle for people who choose to use it.

Many thanks to Ross and Craig from KiwiRail who stopped and assisted us after a collision on the motorway. They guided me to their car to sit, called emergency services, took details from both parties then drove the car to the dealership for me. Also, thanks to Rob at Audi Newmarket for taking photographs of the damage, organising the repairer and calling the insurance company.
