Rants & Raves: Make way for ducklings

It is only a small point but one that irritates me. We all read from the left to the right but on the TV One weather forecasts they usually, but not always, seem to think that we read from right to left. For example "19 6 Auckland". Whereas I consider it should always be "Auckland 19 6". The normal person looks for their area and then reads its temperatures.

Having election day on a Saturday makes so much sense. I'm aware other countries conduct their elections on weekdays, which makes it difficult or impossible for some people to vote due to work or school schedules. I'm so glad that ours are held on a Saturday when life is just a bit less stressful and busy.

I do not understand the Kiwi attitude regarding traffic rules. Almost every day I drive, I experience at least one run through the red traffic lights. When do they understand that RED means STOP? It's not only to infringe the law, it's damn dangerous.

Last Friday at Pak'nSave, Silverdale I left my handbag in my trolley. Thank you to the very kind person who retrieved it and took it into the supermarket, who rang and told me I had left it behind.

Spring babies are being born, SLOW DOWN on the roads, ducks are crossing - it's not hard. Sick of seeing squashed ducks on the road!

A new appreciation for NZ's public toilet system. Never gave it much thought before but after a trip to Europe where you had to pay to use the facilities and sometimes stood in long queues to get to one, we just couldn't wait to get home to New Zealand.
