I have been going to a number of festival movies lately and almost without exception there has been somebody talking and giving a running commentary on the movie to the person next to them. One lady even coughed nonstop for one and a half hours and was affronted when tackled about it. Please give the rest of the theatre a break and keep quiet!

A great big thanks to all those kind people who responded to our flyers and notices when our cat Casper went missing from Eastern Beach on July 23. We received calls of possible sightings and others with suggestions and condolences. Animal welfare is alive and well. He is a large white ragdoll who moves like a ghost ... hence the name Casper.

Lenny Bruce once said, "Making a rule means nothing until you can enforce it." When will we see any meaningful enforcement of drivers on cellphones?

A really big thank-you to all the kind people who came to help my husband Dave when he collapsed while watching a soccer game at the Waitakere club on Fred Taylor Drive last Saturday week - to all the people who helped to get him on to the ground, the nurses who tried to help him, the volunteer firefighters who arranged for oxygen to be brought for him, the ambulance officers who worked on him and the marvellous doctors and nurses at Waitakere Hospital. Unfortunately, Dave passed away on Wednesday.

Please, if you are approaching a roundabout in your vehicle and are travelling straight through, don't indicate going on to the roundabout! It means I have to sit and wait for you, thinking you are coming round, and then you drive straight on! This holds up traffic. You can indicate off the roundabout, but often there is not time. Thank you!

Ordered some wine online, delivered on Monday morning by NZ Couriers. Unfortunately, the driver dropped the box and one bottle was shattered. He took the blame and offered to pay for the bottle out of his own pocket, I told him to leave it, as accidents do happen. This morning on my doorstep a nice bottle of red with a card: "Really sorry for [breaking] your wine bottle on Monday." Unexpected and great gesture. NZ Couriers, you have a great guy working for you!
