I am getting really annoyed at the lack of respect college students have for people on the trains, who continue to keep sitting when adults, especially elderly ones, are standing. I blame the way they are brought up. The worst colleges are Avondale College, Auckland Grammar and St Peter's. Maybe they should be charged full price if they are not going to stand!

Enjoying my morning walk through Totara Park (farm side), I came across Manurewa High School pupils training for Tough Guy/Girl comp. To the young man manning the gate, thank you for taking the time to stop and chat with myself and another lady as you crossed the paddock. So many people I pass on my daily walk can't even be bothered to return a "good morning", so it was refreshing that you not only greeted us, you chatted and laughed with us for a few minutes before walking on with the other lady to the exit gate. You are a credit to your family and to the school.

Friday last I had to stop at the Dairy Flat motorway service centre while heading north. Out front and in the centre proper, everything was great but step into the toilets and it became a disgusting experience. What must our visitors think as they stop to pay their toll road charges? Walls tagged, urine running across the floor. My wife tells me that her experience was no better.

A big thank you to the lady in the carpark at Owens Place on Saturday in the pouring rain who told me about my flat tyre and also a huge thank you to Tyreworks who did the puncture repair for free on Saturday afternoon - awesome.

We found a supermarket trolley on the road outside our place. Took it into protective custody in our carport. We rang the 0800 number on the trolley, and reported it. No one came. We rang again, twice, over the next three weeks. The trolley is still clogging up our carport. Thinking of returning it to the road. Someone might find a use for it.

Papatoetoe Library has reopened after being redecorated. We now have a cheerful environment to go with its cheerful, competent and helpful staff. Thank you, Auckland City Council.
