Today I was in Gusto in Browns Bay. I was very impressed with the waitress at the food counter, who was suddenly overtaken by a huge sneeze. No time for a handkerchief. She turned well away from the food, covered her nose and mouth with her hand and then immediately thoroughly washed and dried her hands. Stopped the spread of diseases instantly.

I wonder who writes the health and safety plans for carpark maintenance. Every other morning at rush hour, there are staff cleaning the entry ramp at the Civic carpark off Greys Ave. As this is dark, slippery, narrow and with no pedestrian access, why wouldn't you schedule cleaning for a safer time?

I would like to praise the awesome blood technicians at the Highland Park netball courts who were so friendly and still smiling at the end of a long day when I gave blood. Also very well done to the large group of immigrants who were donating blood for the first time in NZ.

Cars travelling down Ascot Ave, Remuera, at peak time and turning right into Green Lane East block off the intersection. When lights change, cars trying to turn right from Green Lane East into Ascot Ave are forced to sit through several changes before being able to turn. Remuera Intermediate School pupils have to weave in and out of cars to cross road when the cross now signal goes. How long before a child gets hit?

Well done to police staff, Neighbourhood Support , Papatoetoe Crime Watch Patrol, Maori Wardens and Bell Tea for the initiative of "have a cuppa with your neighbour". We know most of our neighbours and always watch out for each other so it was a bonus that others are looking out for us too by visiting each house and having a police truck and various people available to talk to outside our local shops.

A message to Auckland's bus drivers: Yes, cyclists are slower but we all have equal rights. Just because you have a large vehicle doesn't mean you can cut us off and generally intimidate us. Have some pride as a professional driver and show all road users the courtesy you expect from us. You may see more drivers letting you back into traffic.
