A proud father who shared photos of his young daughter after she shot her first deer has been called "sadistic" for allowing her to taste the animal's raw heart.
"I'm a proud Dad ... check out my little pink ninja princess Chloe, 8, with her first deer a young stag," Johny Yuile wrote on the NZ Woman Hunters Facebook page.
"Shot in a bush block on a friend's farm last weekend. She made tricky downhill shot using my shoulder as a leaning rest and shot with dads 7 mm-08 at about 40m. Then she took a bite from its warm quivering heart , Go Chloe."
Yuile shared photos of Chloe and himself with the dead deer, as well as a photo of the little girl grinning as she has a taste of the stag's heart.
But not everyone was keen on them.
"Bit sadistic to be honest," one Facebook user wrote, "I thought this post was choice until the 'warm quivering heart' bit."
In response to some of the not so positive feedback, one user wrote Chloe wouldn't have bitten on the heart with a grin if she didn't want to do it.
"Kids kick up a stink when they don't want to do stuff, but ya know what? She gave it a go and bagged herself a great deer that will feed her family! Her family has every reason to be proud of her. If you have nothing good to say then don't say anything. Good on you Chloe!"
On Yuile's own page, feedback was more positive - though some were still a bit grossed out by the heart.
"Great work Chloe, as for the other pic ... that is sooooo gross, it's making me feel like throwing up," one person wrote.
"Chloe well done, but you don't need to eat raw intestines. I'll cook you up some meat," another commented.
Yuile, a police officer, shared a photo on Instagram, of himself and Chloe three weeks ago, on an unsuccessful trip to find her first stag.
He told Fairfax he had hunted with my daughter since she was a toddler.
Yuile said perhaps the people who objected to the photo had not grown up learning to hunt.
