Prince Charles: What am I going to say to the Aussies?

Prince Charles is anxious about what he will say to Wallaby-supporters in the wake of their World Cup defeat when he heads across the ditch next week.

The Prince of Wales congratulated the All Blacks on bringing home the trophy in Wellington today.

Thousands of fans gathered in the sun outside parliament to cheer the team on during the final leg of their World Cup victory tour.

But Charles said the boys in black had created a slight problem for him.

"We've just travelled 11,683 miles to come here to congratulate the best rugby team in the world," Prince Charles said.

"What the hell am I going to say to the Aussies next week?"

The comment was met with a roar of cheering from the crowd, and the All Blacks were seen laughing and clapping behind him.

The future king then threw up his hands in mock despair and left the podium, waving at the team on his way down.

A post about the speech on Newstalk ZB's Facebook page has been shared hundreds of times, with fans commenting the moment was "gold".

"You can say 'Four more years, mate'," one fan posted.

The royal couple do not have any formal public engagements today and will resume their packed schedule tomorrow in Nelson.
