Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick has nominated who she thinks should lead the council's six portfolios for the next term.

Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick has nominated who she thinks should lead the council's six portfolios for the next term.

The top and bottom polling councillors have been nominated for positions on the mayor's portfolios, while one councillor has been nominated to lead two portfolios for the next three-year term.

Rotorua Lakes Council will meet from 9.30am tomorrow in the council chamber where councillors will confirm their positions on a range of different committees, boards and trusts and also confirm each of their salaries for the term.

The lowest-polling candidate in October's elections, Karen Hunt, has been nominated to lead both the Creative Communities portfolio and the newly named District Revitalisation portfolio - formerly known as the Inner City Revitalisation portfolio.

She will take over the Creative Communities portfolio from retired councillor Glenys Searancke.

Highest-polling candidate Tania Tapsell has been nominated for extra responsibilities in her second term on council after already being named deputy chairwoman of the council's Operations and Monitoring Committee.

Miss Tapsell has been nominated as Sustainable Living portfolio leader and would take over from former councillor Janet Wepa.

Deputy mayor Dave Donaldson has the biggest workload and has been nominated to lead the council's Economic Development portfolio.

According to an agenda report councillors held a workshop on November 17 and confirmed their commitment to retaining the portfolio approach introduced by mayor Steve Chadwick after her election in 2013.

"A minor change has been made to the focus of one portfolio," the report said.

"The scope of the Inner City Revitalisation portfolio has increased to include a district-wide view.

"The Inner City Revitalisation strategy remains, however the portfolio will now be called District Revitalisation to reflect this increase in scope.

"There is no legal requirement to create a portfolio structure.

"However, since its creation in 2013 a number of other councils now also set up a portfolio base structure as a way of balancing the council's goals with delivery and accountability.

"Therefore in supporting the portfolio structure it become the way in which delivery and accountability are measured by," the report stated.

Councillors will also discuss who will represent the council on the Lakes and Rural community boards. One councillor will sit as a member on each of the boards.

Apart from boards and main council committees, councillors have also been chosen to sit on a wide range of committees representing the Bay of Plenty Regional Council and various iwi and hapu groups.

In terms of salaries, council chair people and their deputies receive additional remuneration on top of their base salary of $43,350.

Mr Donaldson will receive a total of $63,350 and councillors Hunt, Raukawa-Tait and Sturt $53,350.

Also being discussed at tomorrow's meeting will be the council's standing orders and
the Bay of Plenty Triennial Agreement 2016 - 2019.

The agreement is signed by the chairperson of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council and the mayors of Rotorua, Tauranga City, Whakatane, Kawerau, Opotiki, South Waikato, Taupo and Western Bay of Plenty.
