North Shore police are today speaking to witnesses as they try to track down two armed men who robbed a jewellery store yesterday.
The men entered the store on Mokoia Road in Birkenhead about 3pm yesterday and threatened the shop assistant and several customers with a firearm.
They stole an
undisclosed amount of jewellery before leaving in a stolen Mazda Atenza after one of them struggled briefly with a member of the public who grabbed them.
Detective Sergeant Craig McCormick of North Shore CIB said police had finished their scene examination today and were speaking to witnesses.
"We've still got about 12 to speak to but we're still waiting for any information which will help us find the people we are looking for," he said.
The first offender was described as Maori or Polynesian, in his late teens or early twenties, about 192cm tall and of thin build.
He was wearing a light grey hooded sweatshirt with a zip up the front and black gloves.
The second man was about 174cm tall, of medium build, and wearing light brown or beige-coloured clothing.
Anyone with information about the men or stolen car should contact police.
