“Residents reported hearing a woman calling for help in the vicinity of Westmoreland St West.
“Police and ambulance attended the area and eventually located a woman stuck at a property under renovation; she had fallen between a retaining wall and earthworks,” Richardson said.
Richardson said units on the scene discovered that a burglary had occurred at the address.
He said the woman was allegedly in possession of a handbag that had been stolen.
“Further checks established the handbag had allegedly been stolen just hours earlier in Epsom.
“Just before midnight, an offender had allegedly entered a house and stolen a handbag and keys, before driving off in a late model Audi hatchback,” Richardson said.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of a fall incident on Richmond Rd at 02.45am.
One ambulance and two rapid response units attended.
St John said one person in serious condition was transported to Auckland City Hospital.
Richardson said the offender has since been charged with two counts of burglary for the Epsom and Grey Lynn incidents, as well as unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
It’s expected a bedside court hearing will take place later today.
Police plan to oppose bail.
