A body has been found in the Motueka estuary northwest of Nelson in the Tasman District.
Police were called to the scene at 5pm on Wednesday.
The body appeared to have been there for some time.
Inquiries were underway, a police spokesperson said.
The person had not been identified andanyone with information that might help Police identify the person wass being urged to contact Nelson Police on (03) 546 3840.
