Police today released the name of a man found dead in suspicious circumstances in a house in the Kapiti Coast town of Paraparaumu on Wednesday night.
Damien Roy Sharp, 26, was found lying on the floor with puncture wounds to his stomach.
A post-mortem will be done today.
Detective Sergeant Bruce Jenkins said
an examination of the scene by detectives and forensic scientists would be completed today.
Mr Jenkins said a nine-month-old boy was in the house during the disturbance.
His mother -- an occupant of the house -- was home with two male residents and two male visitors.
The dead man was one of the visitors. One of the male occupants suffered a cut to his head.
Mr Jenkins said the death was suspicious but not being treated as homicide.
He would not comment on the circumstances surrounding the death.
"We've spoken to everyone that was in the house at the time and we're satisfied we don't need to speak to any other eye-witnesses but there are other ongoing inquiries.
"We're keeping an open mind -- we're only halfway through the scene examination, we haven't got the results of the post-mortem yet so we can't come to any determination."
While police were examining the scene yesterday, a second body was found on the side of State Highway 1 at the northern end of the town.
The man's body was found about 10.30am today in a thick hedge.
Police have not established a cause of death but said the body had been there for some time.
A hitchhiker found the fully clothed body propped up against a tree between the highway and a private property.
Detective Inspector Stu Wildon said the identity of the man was yet to be established.
The body remained at the site and police were continuing with a scene examination, he said. The death was "unusual" and no cause of death had yet been established.
However, Mr Wildon expected the body to be removed late morning and a post-mortem would be carried out.
