Police have named a 24-year-old man father of three who died after an assault involving a group of people in Lower Hutt on Saturday.
Initial enquiries showed Filipo Sipaia of Stokes Valley received fatal injuries in the assault on High Street in Pomare after 9pm.
He was put on life
support and died at about 3pm on Sunday.
A 17-year-old Lower Hutt man has been charged with assault over the incident and is due to reappear in court on August 30.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell said Mr Sipaia was involved in an altercation with a group of people before his death.
