Crew and doctors tried to save a woman who died on a long-haul flight from the United States to New Zealand.
Police said they were in attendance of “a sudden death, which occurred on an inbound Qantas flight from New York to Auckland overnight” following its arrival at Auckland Airportthis morning.
A Qantas spokesperson told the Herald the passenger’s death occurred during the New York to Auckland leg of their QF4 service.
“Urgent assistance was provided by crew and doctors onboard but sadly they passed away.”
The airline’s thoughts were with the woman’s family and loved ones, the spokesperson said.
“In line with standard procedure, emergency services met the aircraft as part of the response. Further enquiries on this incident are best directed to them.”

The first leg typically takes between 16-17 hours to complete before a short stopover in Auckland, with the second leg to Sydney taking between three to four hours.
Flight data shows the plane left Auckland Airport on its second leg to Sydney just after 8am, one-and-a-half hours after the scheduled departure.
Auckland Airport declined to comment when approached.
