Police have found there is no substance to allegations of a sexual assault on a foreign exchange student on the Coromandel Peninsula.
The allegations were brought to the attention of police following a Herald on Sunday story last week. It was reported a female foreign exchange student at Mercury Bar Area School in Whitianga, who was comatose at a party, was sexually assaulted by a boy while another filmed him.
The video was then said to have been passed among other students at the school.
The student has since returned back to her home country.
Detective Sergeant Martyn Hughes of the Thames Coromandel CIB said an investigation had been carried out and no criminality had been identified.
"Our investigation has been able to progress positively thanks to the full cooperation of all parties involved and no further enquiries will be carried out," Mr Hughes said.
"At this point police would urge people who have been victims of crime or who have information linked to what they believe is an offence to contact the police in the first instance."
