Police arrest one after Dunedin assault leaves person in critical state

A person is in critical condition after being assaulted with a weapon in Dunedin.

Police said they were called around 8am with a report of an assault with a weapon.

Police arrived at private property on Heriot Row and arrested one person.

Hato Hone St John arrived on the scene and treated one patient who was then transported to Dunedin hospital in a critical condition.

Police said the two people knew each other.

Police are still at the scene and are making enquiries into what exactly has occurred are ongoing, a police spokesperson said.

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.
