Pod of orcas spotted near entrance to Akaroa Harbour

A pod of orca whales has been spotted near the entrance to Akaroa Harbour on Banks Peninsula.

The group of large adults and two juveniles is the second pod to be seen in the area in just over a week.

Black Cat Cruises guide Clare Ruddenklau speculated that the increased sightings could be down to the extra food about.

She said there are pods circumnavigating New Zealand all the time, but are rarely seen.
