Person seriously injured following single vehicle crash north of Wellington

A person has been seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash in Pukerua Bay, north of Wellington.

The incident happened in the north-bound lane on State Highway 1 and initially closed the motorway.

The crash occurred at 3.30am and the road was blocked in both directions, but reopened just after 6am.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital by helicopter and remains in a serious condition.
