A person has been freed from a car after a two-car crash on State Highway 1 south of Turangi just after midday.
A rescue helicopter has taken the injured person to hospital.
Emergency services are at the scene near the start of the Three Sisters bends.
A police spokeswoman said
the road was still blocked but was likely to be open soon.
Earlier a police spokeswoman said one person had been trapped.
