Person airlifted to Middlemore Hospital after quad bike crash at Poutō Point, Northland

A person has been airlifted to hospital after a quad bike rolled over in Northland.

Hato Hone St John responded to a call in Poutō Point at 2.38pm today.

Two units, including a road ambulance, attended the scene. Shortly afterwards a patient was flown in the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Middlemore Hospital.

St John said the person was in a critical condition.

Poutō Point is located on the southern tip of the Poutō Peninsula, which forms the northern side of the entrance to Kaipara Harbour.

Some 70km from Dargaville, the area is characterised by large sand dunes that change form regularly as they are reshaped by wind.
