Lorne St Auckland serious assault: 2 people wounded as knife recovered at scene

A man has appeared in court after two people were seriously injured in a violent incident on a downtown Auckland street.

Emergency services were called to the “serious assault” on Lorne St in central Auckland about 10.20pm last night, Detective Senior Sergeant Ash Matthews said.

“One person reportedly sustained critical injuries and is now stable. Another person received serious injuries.

“[And] a knife was recovered at the scene.”

A 65-year-old man was arrested at the scene, Matthews said.

He was charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and appeared in the Auckland District Court early this afternoon.

The man, clad in a blue boiler suit, didn’t enter a plea, RNZ reported.

He was given interim name suppression and remanded in custody.

Cordons remained in place at the Lorne St scene today, with a scene examination to take place, Matthews said.
