Jason Yank and his partner are among the hundreds of stranded passengers in Wellington as flights remain grounded until further notice.
Cameron Higginson was at Wellington Airport this afternoon waiting to pick up his girlfriend, who he hasn't seen in four months.
She is one of the passengers affected by the grounding of all Wellington flights due to thick fog.
"I'm pretty gutted at the moment," Higginson said.
His girlfriendhad moved to Brisbane and he was planning to move there with her, but she decided she didn't like it and was busy moving back home when her flight was diverted to Auckland.
Meanwhile, Kylie Brace was stuck in Wellington, unable to take her flight to Auckland.
She was supposed to be taking a connecting flight to Melbourne to meet her husband, who is there on business. The pair were going to extend the trip for a few days to turn it into a holiday, but Brace has now cancelled her flight to Melbourne.
She had been at the airport since about 11am, and would either need to find a hotel or stay with someone if she could not get home to Auckland today.
"The airport staff have been wonderful," she said.
"They've been as cheerful as they can be, considering the situation."

The airport had been providing refreshments and was handling the situation "really well".
Jenny Keating and Marilyn Hunt were supposed to be flying to Australia for a holiday, but instead were sitting in the airport food cafeteria with glasses of wine in hand.
"We're just hoping that maybe, maybe the international flights may go," Keating said.
"Otherwise I'm not sure. We don't even come from here so we could be sleeping on the airport floor tonight."
Hunt was not in a printable mood, but said: "It's the weather, what can you do?
