“It sounded like something broke, it shook the whole place and we were like, ‘what the heck was that?’“
“We all came out and realised it was an Uber driver and he was driving one of our mates that were coming to the birthday.”
Partygoers rushed outside to find the car lodged in the bottom of the house as others shouted “car crash, car crash”.
Several people tried to hold up part of the damaged carport as it began to give way.
“Our friend was more okay than we thought he would be, I think he just had a lot of adrenaline,” the flatmate said.
However, the driver was in “a lot of shock”.
“He was asking for water and his phone and he made sure that our friend was okay as well, which was really lovely.”
Another partygoer said the car was caught in a “really tight space” but the driver and passenger were “helped out pretty easily”.
The car crashed into a downstairs bedroom, where a resident had been moments earlier.
“We’re just lucky that nobody got fully injured ... it was quite scary,” the flatmate said.
A video sent to the Herald shows a white Tesla being loaded on to a truck this morning after being winched out of the house.
Hato Hone St John sent two ambulances, a critical care unit and an operations manager to the scene.
Police said one person was sent to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition while another was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The house was deemed unsafe, forcing many partygoers to leave without their belongings.
“A lot of us didn’t have shoes or phones ... which had to be left in the house,” the flatmate said.
“But the people that did have their phones, IDs and shoes did go out to town afterwards, including the birthday girl.”
Workers were seen repairing the damaged wall this afternoon and power was expected to be restored later today.
