Palmerston North man charged with manslaughter of Tyrone Gideon

A 21-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of Tyrone Rawiri Gideon.

The Palmerston North man will appear in court tomorrow, police said.

Mr Gideon, 21, died on May 19 after he was shot at a Bradford Place home in Awapuni about 7pm.

A 21-year-old was arrested at the scene and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, appearing in Palmerston North District Court the following day.

Police have also charged an 18-year-old Palmerston North man with unlawful possession of a pistol. He will appear in court on August 4.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said it was a hard time for Mr Gideon's family.

"While these charges signal significant progress in our investigation, this continues to be a testing time for Mr Gideon's family and we are providing them with the appropriate support through this next phase," he said.
