Otorohanga and Waitomo councils to stay apart

The Otorohanga and Waitomo district councils will stay separate.

Merger votes finalised this week show 3122 Otorohanga residents wanted the councils to stay separate and 455 wanted them to merge. Waitomo residents were in favour of the move, 1710 voting for the merger and 1135 against.

For the merger to go ahead, more than 50 per cent of voters from both districts had to back it.
