OSH rules out kiln death prosecution

The Rotorua man who accidentally shut his nephew in a timber-drying kiln will not be prosecuted by Occupational Safety and Health. Regional service manager Murray Thompson said Colin Ngamoki had suffered emotionally and financially since Richard Ransfield, 17, died on February 6.

"It's our opinion that prosecution would not add anything by way of deterrence for Mr Ngamoki or other employees," Mr Thompson said.

Police decided in February not to lay criminal charges.
