A witness to the shooting in Auckland’s Onehunga says they believe it was a case of mistaken identity.
Emergency services rushed to a property on Arthur St shortly after 11am on Friday, following reports that a person had been shot.
A witness to the shooting told the Herald thatsomeone outside the property fired four shots from a shotgun towards the door before they drove off in a dark-coloured van.
Police located a victim at the address, who was then taken to hospital, where he is in a critical but stable condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Bunce said the person was shot in the abdomen.
Bunce previously said that “several people arrived at a residential address and discharged firearms at the front of the house, and the victim has been struck as a result of this”.
“Incidents like this are incredibly concerning, but I want to assure the public that we are doing everything to track these offenders and arrest them. At this stage, we believe this was a targeted incident and there is no ongoing risk to the public.”
The witness said they thought it was a case of targeting the wrong address and that the person acted alone.
