A member of the public, who lives nearby, told the Herald they spotted a rescue helicopter searching above the Orewa Beach estuary southern end around 7pm.
“It search for about 15 to 20 minutes,” he said.
Hato Hone St John and the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust have been approached for more information.
Emergency services were also called to an incident at Kai Iwi Lakes, in Northland, just after 7pm.
Police said they were alerted of two people in the water needing rescue in the Kai Iwi Lakes.
“Both people were pulled from the water and provided medical care.”
It did not look like anyone was seriously injured in that incident, police said.
