One person dead after serious crash in Hawke's Bay

A person has died after a serious crash in Te Pohue, Hawke's Bay.

Police were notified of the crash involving a car and a truck along Berry Rd, around 8pm on Wednesday, a spokesman said.

Police earlier said initial indications were that one person was seriously injured in the crash. A statement has since confirmed they have died.

"The circumstances of the crash will be investigated."

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised of the accident. Motorists should avoid the area.

Police were unable to confirm if the vehicles involved in the crash were undertaking essential work at the time.

The road is in an isolated area, mainly providing access to forestry and logging works for the Esk Forest area.
