A person is dead after a crash south of Whangarei.
Four vehicles were involved in the crash which happened on State Highway 1 north of Ruakaka about 4.40pm.
A Fire Service spokesman said one person had died, and they were working to free one person who was trapped.
In astatement police said three other people are seriously injured. Two people have been taken to Whangarei Hospital. The crash involved three cars and a light truck.
The road has since reopened, and the serious crash unit is investigating.
