For the second year running nzherald.co.nz has been recognised as one of the top newspaper websites in the world at the awards dubbed the "Oscars of the internet".
The 12th Annual International Webby Awards have recognised nzherald.co.nz as an Official Honoree in the newspaper websites category.
nzherald.co.nz isone of only 11 newspaper websites to be awarded the status in the category.
Those in the top award category of "nominee" included The New York Times, Guardian, Wall St Journal and The Independent. The Herald was an "honoree" along with The Globe and Mail, Washington Post, the US News and World Report and others.
The 12th Annual Webby Awards received a record number of entries with more than 10,000 submissions, with less than 15 per cent deemed Official Honorees.
A Herald news site competitor, Fairfax-owned stuff.co.nz, was an "honoree" in the news site category of the awards.
nzherald.co.nz Multimedia Editor Jeremy Rees says the award for the Herald is a major achievement.
"To once again be recognised as an Honoree by the leading website awards in the world is quite remarkable when you consider we are in esteemed company."
The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organisation that includes David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver and internet co-inventor Vint Cerf.
