Now the America's Cup sailors have shipped out of the Viaduct Harbour, the fashion set is moving in, lock, stock and stiletto heels.
The fourth annual New Zealand Fashion Week, starting on October 21, will be in the former Alinghi base, old Team NZ base and a marquee by the water.
In
the fickle world of fashion, the Auckland Town Hall, home for the past three events, is so last year.
Fashion Week managing director Pieter Stewart said the event showing designers' autumn/winter collections to buyers and media had grown too big for the Town Hall.
The Viaduct was "more edgy".
The extra space means designers will be able to sell their ranges onsite for the first time in dedicated showrooms, rather than having to make appointments with buyers at their workrooms. In the past, some delegates found it difficult to keep appointments if the workrooms were not centrally located.
Out-of-town designers will also benefit.
Mrs Stewart is attending the Australian Fashion Week's spring/summer event in Sydney starting tomorrow, where she will discuss the possibility of Australia's autumn/winter Fashion Week in Melbourne following two days after New Zealand's week.
This could attract more overseas buyers and media and mean some costs could be shared.
