Northland takeaway targeted by robbers twice in nine days

The owners of a Kaikohe takeaway are fearing for their safety after being targeted by armed robbers twice in nine days.

A man armed with a shotgun entered Roses Takeaways on Broadway at about 9pm on Tuesday and grabbed the business owner - who did not want his name to be used - by the shirt.

His son, Wei Chen, said his father did not speak good English so couldn't understand what the robber said, but his demands were clear.

"He forced my dad to open the till and took the money. He got nearly $300."

Just nine days before the attack, Mr Chen was threatened by a knife-wielding assailant who stole about $100 from the till.

A teenager had since been arrested and was being dealt with by the Youth Court.

Mr Chen said they were thinking of hiring a security guard.

"It's just left some bad feelings about safety and it makes business even harder."

Police said the latest offender had dark brown skin, an average build and was about 1.8 metres tall.

He was wearing a pair of white cotton gloves, a balaclava, black sport shoes with a white stripe on the side and he was carrying a light grey sweatshirt.
