North Otago crash: State Highway 1 blocked after two trucks collide

One person is in a critical condition and a main highway is blocked after two trucks collided in North Otago.

Emergency services responded to the crash on State Highway 1 near Mile Flat Rd in Hampden at around 7.30am this morning.

Hato Hone St John responded with an ambulance, Prime responder, helicopter and operations manager.

Fire and Emergency said four crews responded and freed one person who was trapped.

One person was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a critical condition.

The Serious Crash Unit is conducting a scene examination.

Motorists are advised to avoid travel and to expect significant delays on the road as no diversions are in place.
