The identities of two men alleged to have been involved in a street brawl in Martinborough last month are out in the open after their name suppression lapsed at Masterton District Court yesterday.
Christopher Paul Vizor, 33, and Bruce Sullivan, 51, both members of a Martinborough night patrol, were in court on charges related to an allegedly violent May 21 confrontation between the two men and a group of teenagers.
Sullivan is charged with two counts of injuring with intent to injure and possession of an offensive weapon namely an extendable police baton.
Vizor appeared on two charges of assault with a weapon, unlawful discharge of a firearm with reckless disregard, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon and common assault
Nathan Kapene, 18, of Carterton who was not previously granted name suppression also appeared on a charge of assault with intent to injure and two charges of injuring with intent to injure.
Lawyer Peter Broad, acting for Vizor on instructions from high-profile criminal lawyer Mike Antunovic, requested a non-association clause between Vizor and Sullivan be lifted because Vizor's children are Sullivan's grandchildren, which Judge Chris Tuohy granted. Vizor also had his curfew conditions altered allowing him to leave his house an hour earlier, changing his curfew from 9pm to 6am to 9pm to 5am.
Kapene was also granted altered bail conditions allowing him to play or practice rugby during his 9pm to 7am curfew but not to attend after-match functions. He must also continue to stay away from Martinborough.
Sullivan's bail conditions remained unchanged. All three were remanded to appear again on July 20 for a pre-depositions hearing.
