The body of a dirt bike rider has been released to their family after police completed a post-mortem examination.
Northland Detective Senior Sergeant Christan Fouhy said police were continuing to investigate the events that led to the death and to a second rider being injured on Tuesday evening.
“Thesecond bike rider remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition,” Fouhy said.
“A scene examination has now concluded, and the investigation remains ongoing.”
The man was found dead on May 5 about 11.10pm on rural Ngapipito Rd, between Kaikohe and Moerewa.
The second rider was found seriously injured on Tana Rd, which intersects with Ngapipito Rd. Police believed both were knocked off their bikes.

A scene examination took place on Ngapipito Rd and a nearby property this week with a cordon in place.
Fouhy asked anyone with information about what happened on Tuesday evening to contact police online or via 105, using the reference number 260506/1270.
